Superintendent’s Welcome

On behalf of the school board, staff, and students of the Baltic School District, I am honored to welcome you to Baltic.  The mission of the Baltic School District is to prepare students to be successful in life.  We are successful in accomplishing this mission due to the close partnership we have formed with our students, parents, staff, and other community members as together we strive to provide a world class education for our students.

Baltic students are educated in one PK-12 modern facility located at One Bulldog Avenue in Baltic, South Dakota.  The high school and gymnasium were constructed in 1988 with the PK-8 addition and commons area completed in 2006.  These attractive, spacious, and technology rich facilities allow our students to achieve to their maximum potential and serve as a focal point for our entire community.

Baltic’s commitment to education begins at the pre-school level with the district operating a pre-school for 3 and 4 year olds and continues with all-day everyday kindergarten.  We are proud of our ability to provide small class sizes and a highly trained teaching staff committed to excellence.  Baltic Elementary School, which includes grades PreK-5 has been named a Distinguished School by the South Dakota Department of Education every year since 2004, as was Baltic Middle School in 2006, and Baltic High School in 2005, 2006, and 2009.

In addition to small class sizes and a wide variety of 21st Century curricular programs, the Baltic School District offers several special opportunities for our students, including a Challenge Program for gifted K-8 students, Spanish language instruction for elementary students, and a One-to-One Laptop Computer Program for students in grades 9-12.  We are also excited to announce that in 2010-11, the Baltic School District will be joining the Sioux Falls Career and Technical Academy that will offer classes in auto tech, auto repair, welding, health careers, culinary arts, construction, and engineering.

Our comprehensive educational program also includes a wide variety of co-curricular programs.  These programs include opportunities for students to participate in athletics, drama and other speech activities, vocal and instrumental music, FCCLA and FFA, yearbook, and Quiz Bowl.  One of the advantages of a small school such as Baltic is that students have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities rather than specializing in one activity.

I would be very happy to visit personally with you about our school and community, and I also invite you to visit our school website at www.baltic.k12.sd.us for more information.
